3 key political assumptions

 3/23/2025 Whenever I have a disagreement with somebody about politics, I find it useful to try and keep three key assumptions in the forefront of my mind: 1)  They care.  The fact that they've thought enough about this particular issue so as to have formed an opinion about it tells me that they're at least invested enough to have given it some consideration.  And this says something positive about their character. 2)  We share in common the underlying principles.  Whatever the issue of the day happens to be, that's only at the surface level.  Underneath those leaves atop the tree, if we were to trace it down to the trunk and the roots to reveal the timeless, universal principle at work, we would probably all be in agreement.  Eg: we all want people to have free will, be educated, maintain civil order, keep people safe, etc.   3) We just have different information.  The main part of the disagreement comes from having different infor...
